The Rocky Mountain Fisher House is one of the original houses built by the Fisher House Foundation. It was built in 1992 and opened in 1993 at the Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center Campus. In 1995, The Friends of the Fisher House, Denver VA Medical Center was formed to support the programs of the Rocky Mountain Fisher House. When the base closed in 1996, the management of the Fisher House passed to the Denver VA Medical Center and the Friends of the Fisher House continued their mission of support. In 2011, the Friends organization was renamed the Denver Fisher House Foundation. In 2016, the name changed to the Rocky Mountain Fisher House Foundation in order to reflect the region we serve.
The construction of the new Denver VA Medical Hospital combined with the increase in need for medical care for our active duty military and veterans has created a demand for more rooms at the Rocky Mountain Fisher House. Because of this demand, the VA and the National Fisher House Foundation has approved the building of a second Fisher House. The new house will be built on the grounds of the new VA hospital in Aurora. Groundbreaking is expected in Spring 2018. The new house will be larger with 16 rooms. The plan is to also keep the old house because we serve such a large region.
